Fun cops ban play-time for kids

April 3, 2008

Katrina Jones

THE ‘fun police’ are on patrol it seems, with concerns over litigation and duty of care forcing some Gold Coast schools to ban play-time before school.

The ‘no play’ policy, confirmed to be in operation at two Catholic primary schools, requires students to congregate in an area before class where they are not allowed to play.

Other Gold Coast schools also adopt before-school restrictions to limit the risk of student mishaps — and potentially even being sued.

A Catholic Education spokesman has confirmed that at the heart of the policy are duty-of-care and insurance ramifications.

One school has a routine in which pupils have to sit and are not allowed to run around.

The system has drawn mixed responses from parents, with many bewildered by the restriction on before-school play time.

A child and adolescent physical activity and obesity expert said the schools should be encouraging children to be active and allow them ‘to play and be kids’.

Principals from local schools told The Bulletin they thought the system of restricting play time was ‘ludicrous’. However, many have constraints on before-school fun, such as students not being allowed on ovals or certain playgrounds.

Assisi Catholic College, Coomera, which is trialling the routine before implementing it next term, said the move was to provide a safe and supervised environment for students who do not go to OSHCare (outside school hours care programs).

Principal Dora Luxton said the school had to implement sustainable practices to cope with the increasing number of students.

“As a growing — and rapidly growing — school we have to continue to refine processes because what you do with 150 students won’t work when that number grows,” she said.

The new routine means hundreds of students from prep through to Year 6, who do not attend before-school care, are supervised by four teachers at the new school facility for 20 minutes before lessons start.

In the March 27 edition of the college newsletter, the school said: “(Early years/junior years) students (with their bags) will go immediately to Perugia (a new multi-purpose building) when they arrive at school. Here they will sit quietly under the supervision of a teacher who will be on duty from 8.30am.”

The newsletter said students who arrived at school before 8.30am were required to attend OSHcare, a paid for, outside school hours care program.

Ms Luxton said the time would also be used to ‘settle’ students before class.

“It’s a settling time in safe and supervised environment,” she said. “Students are free to move around and talk with each other and teachers, but it’s a no-game playing area.”

She said the school had longer breaks at morning tea and lunch than many others on the Coast and that provided students with sufficient play time.

A school parent told The Bulletin yesterday that before the routine was introduced, students played in the playground without restrictions.

“I’ve seen the kids charging about playing footy and chasing each other and that seemed natural, just like when I was a kid,” said the parent.

“This is certainly different. I suppose it could turn out to be a wonderful innovation, so I’m not completely opposed. It does seem a little odd though.”

St Brigid’s Catholic Primary School, Nerang, also has the routine in place. A spokesman said the 20 minutes before school was the ‘quiet time of the day’.

“From 8.20am to 8.40am students sit down and aren’t allowed to run around,” he said. “They sit in class groups and those who may not have had breakfast are encouraged to eat something on the stairs.”

He said he had heard of this system at several other schools.

Child and adolescent physical activity and obesity expert Tony Okely said that for many children, school could be the only setting where they could safely take part in physical activity.

“I think that schools have a role to play to promote physical activity as much as possible,” he said.

“To have a policy to encourage inactivity in my opinion is probably one that should be examined.”

He said the latest studies showed that by children taking part in activities, it improved their concentration and did not damage their ability to learn and work.

“Not allowing kids to play and be kids is just making their lives structured like an adult, if they are being told to sit still and concentrate for the day ahead,” he said.

“I can understand there might be a supervision aspect that comes into play but I would encourage the schools to look at other ways to encourage activity, because this just doesn’t make sense.”

A spokesman from the Catholic Education, Archdiocese of Brisbane, said schools could only have children playing in the school grounds if they were supervised.

“It’s a duty of care issue and that has insurance ramifications,” he said.

“We can’t have an unknown number of people running around in all parts of the schools.”

An Education Queensland spokeswoman said the duty of care in Education Queensland schools started from the time students were known to be on the premises during the school day, whether or not it had officially begun.

“The Department of Education does not require the implementation of a formal playground duty roster before school, but students should have reasonable directions about activities and area access permitted,” she said.

Several principals from local schools agreed the routines were a bad idea, with many admitting they had never heard of the systems before.

“We have a before and after-school hours program for parents to use but we don’t contain kids if they do not utilise it,” one said. “Kids should be allowed to play.”

One principal said letting children play before school was a healthy alternative to making them sit still, as they had to do in class.

“It encourages kids to come to school because it is something they look forward to,” he said.

“I’ve heard of this happening at a school and I don’t think it is a good idea.”

Former Governor Jesse Ventura: WTC Collapse A Controlled Demolition

April 3, 2008

Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura vehemently savaged the official 9/11 story on a syndicated national radio show today, saying the WTC collapsed like a controlled demolition and was pulverized to dust as he also highlighted the impossible 10 second free fall speed of the towers.

Appearing on The Alex Jones Show, Ventura said that his initial reaction to 9/11 was much like most people at the time, and he accepted the official story outright, a response he now regrets because he was in a position of power and could have used it to raise a lot of pointed questions.

“I kicked myself when it initially happened that the light didn’t go off but I was so shocked that this thing had even taken place that I apologize for not being more aware,” said Ventura, adding that watching Loose Change at the insistence of his son was part of the catalyst for his wake up call.

Host Alex Jones is executive producer of Loose Change (get it here), the most watched Internet movie of all time. Ventura said he ran through a rollercoaster of emotions when he saw the film.

“When I finally did watch it I went through every emotion you could imagine, from laughing, crying, getting sick to my stomach, to the whole emotional thing,” said the former Governor.

“To me questions haven’t been answered and are not being answered about 9/11,” said Ventura, before highlighting the collapse of Building 7, a 47-story tall skyscraper that was not hit by a plane but collapsed in its own footprint in the late afternoon of September 11.

“Two planes struck two buildings….but how is it that a third building fell 5 hours later?” asked Ventura, “How could this building just implode into its own footprint 5 hours later – that’s my first question – the 9/11 Commission didn’t even devote one page to that in their big volume of investigation,” added the former Governor.

Ventura then explored how it was possible that all three buildings could rapidly collapse at almost free fall speed.

“How could those buildings fall at the speed of gravity – if you put a stopwatch on them both of those World Trade Center buildings were on the ground in ten seconds – how can that be?” asked Ventura.

“If you took a billiard ball and dropped it from the height of the World Trade Center in a vacuum it would hit the ground in 9.3 seconds and if you took that same billiard ball and dropped it 10 stories at a time and merely stopped it and started it it would take 30 seconds – if you dropped it every floor of the World Trade Center to the ground, simply stopping and starting it on gravity it would take over 100 seconds to reach the ground,” he surmised.

The former wrestling star then questioned how low-temperature burning jet fuel could melt steel.

“Jet fuel is four fifths kerosene – which is not a hot burning fuel – and they wanted us to believe it melted these steel structured girders and caused these buildings to pancake collapse to the ground?” he stated.

“I was on the site within two weeks after it happened and I saw none of these pancakes – wouldn’t they all be piled up in a huge mass on the ground and yet everything was blown into dust – when you look at it from that aspect none of it makes any sense,” said Ventura.

“Never before in the annuls of history has a fire caused a steel structure building to fall to the ground like these two did,” he concluded.

Having undergone Basic Underwater Demolition Seal training, Ventura is speaking from an experienced standpoint and he unequivocally stated that he thought the buildings were deliberately imploded.

“Upon looking at the film in super-slow motion and the way the buildings fell and comparing that to the way that they do like a controlled demolition of a hotel in Las Vegas, they both fell identical.”

“I did watch the film of Building 7 going down and in my opinion there’s no doubt that that building was brought down with demolition,” said the former Governor.

Ventura also questioned the lack of wreckage outside of the Pentagon after Flight 77 allegedly struck the building.

“When I was watching Loose Change with a friend of mine – he happens to work for a company that helps build the Boeing airplanes and they said that when the engines completely disappeared and were destroyed, his response was, excuse my French – bullshit!,” said Ventura.

“I turned to him and said why and he said because they’re made of titanium steel – they can’t disintegrate.”

Ventura said that the corporate media were going to continue to cover-up the truth about 9/11, but that the number of credible people speaking out and increasing education and knowledge about the subject would eventually reap dividends.

“We don’t want to lose our country, after all it’s still our country and until they put us down we have the power,” Ventura concluded.

The Governor’s bold comments about 9/11 come on the heels of similar views expressed by American icon Willie Nelson during an interview on the same radio show in February.

Turning Off Fears of Global Warming

April 3, 2008

By Jay Ambrose
Scripps Howard News Service

All over the planet recently, people turned off electric lights to illustrate alarm about human-caused global warming, and the symbolism, it seems to me, is dead-on right about the possible consequences not of warming itself, but of hype about warming.

Progress could become regress, and figuratively speaking, the world could go dark.

The fear mongering knows no surcease. Every possible evil is blamed on climate change, from water shortages to flooding to the disappearance of certain frogs. Supposedly, there’s a scientific consensus of coming catastrophe of almost unspeakable horror, and millions have been swayed to this point of view, as the “Earth Hour” light-dimming showed.

The politicians are at this moment devising policies meant to be preventive but that could be perilous or pointless or both. You begin to edge toward balance in a survey in which more than 500 climate scientists were asked if we knew enough to formulate such policies.

A majority said we did not. A think-tank fellow reaffirms in an op-ed piece that the United Nations employed clearly faulty methods in making dire projections about the warming to come and that there’s no sound basis for insisting that today’s warming is the highest ever known in Earth’s history.

Now comes news that the upper waters of the ocean have been cooling for the past four years, that average Earth temperatures have been slowly cooling since 1998, that the melting Arctic has been freezing again and that this past winter has been one of the coldest in the Northern Hemisphere on record.

None of this information means that human-caused climate change does not exist. It is pointed out that no one has ever said that warming means an elimination in the near future of very cold winters.

The cooling since 1998 could be temporary, and even these cooler years are still hotter than virtually all recorded years prior to 1998. The ice in the Arctic is at least to date thinner than the ice used to be, scientists have said.

But read what various informed skeptics argue about some of these developments, and you discover that the case has been made stronger either that warming has been caused primarily by cyclical sunspot activity or that there are natural variables that are turning down the “thermostat” that greenhouse gases turned up.

It appears less clear than ever that warming is our future. There seems to be at least a possibility that we are faced with the opposite, an era of cooling.

In other words, despite all the talk that the debate is over about catastrophic warming, it is not. And it would therefore be wholly irrational to undertake drastic, economy-destroying, life-altering steps to combat something that either does not exist or that would be impervious to our efforts.

Although the politicians keep telling us that we can significantly reduce greenhouse gas warming with mild measures, they are flat-out wrong; reducing fossil-fuel energy consumption sufficiently to achieve what we are incessantly told we will have to achieve within a relatively few years would turn our modern industrial society upside down.

Lesser measures would be all pain and no gain, mere ritual signifying nothing but angst.

We can certainly do as some scientists, economists and others advise ― figure on adjusting to any warming as it occurs and investing in alternative-energy research that could prove useful even if there is no warming.

We must also, of course, keep gathering data and analyzing what we find.

Some research on warming consequences is already casting doubt on previous concerns.

A New York Times story tells us as one example that some biologists now think there is a non-warming reason for the harlequin frogs disappearing, even though warming was once given as the sure-enough cause. One small piece of hype bites the dust.

Israel ‘all set for war with Hezbollah’

April 3, 2008

Press TV
Wednesday, April 2, 2008

Israeli war minister Ehud Barak claims the regime has learnt many lessons from the Lebanon war to stand against Hezbollah’s great power.

“We have many lessons to learn from the Second Lebanon War, which we will hopefully implement in IDF training,” he said.

Israel has experienced “severe failures and faults” during a 33-day war against Hezbollah in summer 2006, the recently published Winograd Report revealed, making the war a total failure for the regime.

Barak also claimed that “Hezbollah is getting stronger, but so is Israel”, adding that “I would suggest that no one of the other side of the border mess with Israel, for their own good”.

He alleged that “Hezbollah, lurking on the other side of the border, is wary of firing at Israel at the moment, but continues to plot various schemes throughout the entire northern front”.

Tension is high amid speculations that Hezbollah might deal a blow to the regime in retaliation for the assassination in Damascus of its top commander Imad Mugniyah.

Israel has been on high alert following the end of a 40-day mourning period for Mugniyah, having formerly threatened Lebanon to wage another war if Hezbollah retaliates for the killing of Mugniayah.

Japanese MP Yukihisa Fujita speaks out on 9/11

April 2, 2008

Japanese MP Yukihisa Fujita of the Democratic Party of Japan, a member of the House of Councillors in the Diet of Japan is the single most important person to step forward to ask hard questions about 9/11 and the “War on Terror” this year. Among the many topics he covered, he called upon the 9/11 Truth movement to extend their presence beyond the Internet to the masses. He recommended the showing of films in public concerning 9/11 so as to create an awareness concerning the realities of September 11, 2001.

Member of Japanese Diet (Parliament) Doubts Official 9/11 Fairy Tale

On January 11th 2008 member of Parliament Yukihisa Fujita of the Japan Democratic party, made a 20 minute long statement at the House of Councillors, the upper house of the Diet (parliament) of Japan. He questioned the official version of 9/11 presented to the Japanese government and the public by the US administration in a session of the defense commission:

Hillary Clinton’s NAFTA Story Exposed

Obama Feigns Ignorance of CFR, NAU

April 1, 2008

Kurt Nimmo
April 1, 2008

Is it possible Barack and Michelle are like ships passing in the night? Is it possible Michelle does not talk to her husband about the Council on Foreign Relations? Michelle Obama is on the board of directors of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, founded in 1922 as the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations. And yet here is Obama in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, telling people he is clueless about the elite organization. “I don’t know if I’m an official member. I’ve spoken there before. It basically is a forum where people talk about foreign policy. There is no official membership. I don’t have a card, or you know a special handshake or anything like that,” Raw Story reports.

Ha ha, Obama makes funny. But while he claims to be clueless about the CFR, even though his wife heavily involved in the globalist organization, Obama cannot deny the fact one of his key advisers is at the very epicenter of the CFR — Zbigniew Brzezinski. Chase Manhattan godfather David Rockefeller set Brzezinski up as the Trilateral Commission’s first executive director from its inception in 1973 until late 1976 when he was appointed by President Jimmy Carter as Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs. In order to understand what Brzezinski, and thus Obama, have in mind for us, it is important to read Brzezinski.

“The technotronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society,” writes Brzezinski. “Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values. Soon it will be possible to assert almost continuous surveillance over every citizen and maintain up-to-date complete files containing even the most personal information about the citizen. These files will be subject to instantaneous retrieval by the authorities.”

It’s rather amusing to hear Zbigniew diss the Bush neocons. But when the rubber meets pavement there is little difference, all are on a CFR schedule. “The interests behind the Bush Administration, such as the CFR, The Trilateral Commission — founded by Brzezinski for David Rockefeller — and the Bilderberger Group, have prepared for and are now moving to implement open world dictatorship within the next five years. They are not fighting against terrorists. They are fighting against citizens,” says Dr. Johannes B. Koeppl, Ph.D. a former German defense ministry official and advisor to former NATO Secretary General Manfred Werner.

“In 1983/4 I warned of a take-over of world governments being orchestrated by these people,” explains Koeppl. “There was an obvious plan to subvert true democracies and selected leaders were not being chosen based upon character but upon their loyalty to an economic system run by the elites and dedicated to preserving their power…. All we have now are pseudo-democracies.”

It looks like Obama, chosen for his “loyalty to an economic system run by the elites and dedicated to preserving their power,” may have a shot at becoming the next decider-commander. He may play stupid when it comes to an impromptu question about the CFR, shrewdly turning such into a joke that makes the person who asked the question look like yet another conspiracy nut, sort of like Timothy McVeigh. It also helps to pretend to be clueless about the North American Union, as Obama would have us believe he is, acting like he has never heard the term before (see video; truly an Academy Award performance when it comes to denying knowledge of the NAU, once again making the man asking the question about it in Lancaster come off as another tinfoil hatter, probably in need of a gentle little prod with a taser, as suggested by members of the corporate media).

After addressing the conspiracy nuts, Obama told sweet little lies about NAFTA. It’s OK to diss NAFTA now because after he is “elected,” Obama will do whatever the global elite tell him to do, even send the last remains of good American jobs to the China slave labor gulag and preside over the third-worldization of the once great United States, destined for extinction as its economy is dismantled. As usual, the American people will be none the wiser. “The people of the western world have been trained to be good consumers; to focus on money, sports cars, beauty, consumer goods. They have not been trained to look for character in people,” writes Koeppl.

Indeed, and as the laughter in this video reveals, when Obama sarcastically mentions the secret CFR handshake, most people are either blissfully unaware of the CFR and what they have in mind for them — read the Brzezinski quote above — or they are not sufficiently trained to scoff at mention of the CFR, Trilateral Commission, and the Bilderbergers, and declare: you must be one of those black helicopter nuts.

Obama trips over North American Union, as if he has never heard of the NAU or the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, the latter directly connected to NAFTA, a topic Obama, or his handlers, believe they can exploit. But you can’t have it both ways — declaring to be against NAFTA and at the same time feigning ignorance of the NAU. It doesn’t wash.

But then maybe it does, considering the people who will vote for Obama. Not only are Americans “trained to be good consumers,” they are trained to think every four years that all they have to do is throw the last set of bums out and install a new crew. Obama was selected because his only obvious experience is he can talk the talk and deflect questions about his association with the CFR.

And that’s the only experience required by the New World Order.
